A hard day's work...

Joe usually does these posts, but I thought I'd try to be more blog-ific. This has been our first week in our new schedule: Joe's at work at SIU and I'm at work for my new boss: Calla Grace. Fewer conference calls than my last job, but still requiring skills in conflict management, creative thinking, and strategic visioning.

All in all, a good week. Calla's starting to grow her vocabulary, picking out words that are particularly meaningful to her... "shoes," "more" (we taught her that one after I was tired of hearing her grunt and point to my plate at the dinner table), and "outside." In addition to a fascination with her shoes, she also loves to carry a purse and wear different hats. Doesn't really want to wear anything else, if she had her way. Tonight, before bedtime, Joe and I joined her in hugging her doll and various stuffed animals and rocking them like babies. It was such a treat. Our most fun game - admittedly, also completely self-serving - is the "give mom a hug game." I open my arms wide and ask for a hug. She gives me an "oh, mom" smile, bends from the hip and leans into my shoulder. It more than makes up for three months of fussy baby.

We're still unpacking a few boxes and figuring out where all this stuff goes. It might take a while. My new boss doesn't give me much time off.

Below: Pictures from an outing last weekend to the DuQuoin (IL) State Fair. Not sure how they can call it a state fair since it's not THE state fair, but so they do. We saw cows, sheep, horses, and a petting zoo. Guess which of those Calla liked the best?!
