Weekend Fun

You know it's been a good weekend when the kids are covered in dirt, scratches and refuse to come inside.

We've recently augmented our landscaping with a new swing (referenced earlier) and a brand new outside play house.  Now that the deluge has stopped and it looks like our property isn't going to become waterfront, we're all about the outside.  Calla refuses to wear any shoes and Corrie throws a fit when it's time to come in (until she figures out it's mealtime, because food trumps play).  I just invested in more sunscreen, so we are all set.

Corrie loves the play house, particularly the slide, and Calla divides her time between the swing, the playhouse and picking flowers.  She's convinced that dandelions are exotic and fortunately, we have a good crop of them.  We have vases of various wildflowers (aka weeds) all over the house.  Tonight, Joe convinced her that she can use her camera to just take pictures and that would be fun, too.

You might think that with all these child distractions, I could just sun bathe with trashy novels and a daiquiri.  But you would be wrong.  First, as Calla will attest, that swing isn't going to swing itself.  Second, while Corrie can amuse herself for minutes on end with the slide, a doll and her pink car, all it takes is a dog being walked down the street and she's off down the driveway.  "[H]ello!  Ello!  Do[gg]ee?  Do-ee?  Do-EEE!"

Popcicles served here.  They just may have a few ants.
Wheee!
Calla took this picture of her dad.  Not bad!
Taking a break in the shade.
The best news of all is that this is still May.  Pool gets opened this week.  Garden is just taking off.  We think we've made it through the craziness of Southern Illinois spring weather.  More popsicles, bare feet and play time yet to come.  And chances are, we'll probably take a few photos of all the fun.
