Back-Handed Compliment

Calla's not one to shy away from praise lately... Joe and I often hear that we are the "BEST Mom/Dad EVER" or that the meal I just made was "so delicious" or the "BEST SUPPER EVER."  But perhaps she paid me the highest compliment on Tuesday of this week.

She had a goodie bag of Valentine's treats at home, and she knew it.  (Gone are the days when she can bring treat bags home and then forget about it, leaving them for me to... safeguard.)  We had been running errands, and stopped for our post-Grocery treat/bribe of doughnuts.  In the short car ride home, Calla started planning out the next treat she'd take from her goodie bag.  This madness had to stop.  At least for the day.

And so I calmly told her that we were taking all her sweets out of the snack rotation for the day.  And when she protested, I just explained that she had enjoyed too many sweets today and it was my job as her Mom to help her make healthy decisions.

Calla's retort?  Arms folded crossly across her chest, she grumbled "I wish I had a bad mama."

Really a quite nice compliment, don't you think?

And speaking of compliments, I should update you on Corrie's new words.  That is, I should have written about her growing vocabulary earlier so that I could update you now.  All the same, here is the list as it stands today, and generally in order of their appearance:

Kitty ("KEEE!")
Ivy ("IIEEEE!")
Daddy ("DaDEEEEE!")
[note: the exclamation marks truly seem to be part of the pronunciation]
 Book
Dog
Eye
Baby
BathTime (one word)
Water
Chloe

Hmmm... what's missing?  What word could she have possibly forgotten to learn at this young age?   Perhaps someone who nursed her for 13 months.  Woke up several times a night with her.  Anyone?

Aaah, yes... and now, for her newest word, still used only very sparingly:

Mama.

Finally.
